WHO reports multidisciplinary outbreak-response workshop in Addis Ababa

Around 30 participants and experts from three regions attended a four-day workshop focused on collaboration in emergency outbreak response, according to the World Health Organization.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says around 30 participants and experts from Africa, the Eastern Mediterranean Region and Europe gathered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for a four-day workshop focused on multidisciplinary collaboration in outbreak response.

According to WHO, the workshop was provided by the Robert Koch Institute, with technical and operational support from WHO, under the Emergency Medical Teams initiative.

Participants discussed how technical, operational, environmental and social perspectives could be brought together in outbreak responses. At the Regional EMT Training and Knowledge Hub, they also took part in practical exercises involving water filtration and water-quality testing, WHO reported.

WHO described the workshop as strengthening regional partnerships and underscoring trust, collaboration and shared learning. That assessment reflects WHO’s account of the event; KROONIS has not independently established its longer-term impact.
